Barry
Barry is a Chicago craftsman and college wood-crafting instructor. His rocking chairs are a staple at Sawbridge. More recently, he has designed stunning dining furniture. When not teaching or building furniture in his Chicago-area shop, he is often an artist-in-residence at various artistic enclaves around the country.
“My furniture is functional. I mean for it to be lived with and to be used and to last forever. And at the same time, I want to create inspired, enduring designs without gaudiness or gimmicks, from ordinary lumber. Form and function become intertwined when I am designing. I have one eye on how a piece will be made and used, and one eye on appearance, proportion, and balance. I am hoping you will see my work and say ‘wow…look at that’! I want you to touch it and take a closer look”.
